Matt Godden’s hat-trick against Newport secured a big three points at home for Stevenage on Saturday and in the process the striker entered the Boro record books.
Matt became the fastest – and only the third – Boro player to hit 10 league goals in a single season since Stevenage became a Football League club back in 2010.
The summer arrival from Ebbsfleet took just 20 league appearances (19 starts, 1 sub) to reach double-figures, beating Francois Zoko’s record of 22 league appearances (all starts) to register 10 goals back in 2013/14.
Lucas Akins also reached that landmark in 2012/13 in Sky Bet League One, but he took 38 games to get there.
The only other Stevenage player to score 10 goals in a single season is Chris Beardsley in 2011/12, but three of those goals came in cup competitions.
