Darren Sarll was delighted to come away with a point at Carlisle on Easter Monday and was even more pleased with how his players performed.
The result consolidates Stevenage’s positon in the play-off places and Sarll says it is a huge result.
“I thought they were brilliant. I just said to them, that is a massive point for us to be taking away at Carlisle and to move us another place up the table.
“That is the momentum we want at this time of year but we also wanted to stop the negative momentum that we maybe picked up in the last couple of games.
“Psychologically a massive, massive performance and result for us. Because of what has happened in the last seven days, even more so.
“My lads ran themselves back into the race and the hunt today. A win would have been more than credible for their efforts.”
Sarll was forced to make a number of changes for the game as injuries begin to take their toll on the squad.
Kaylen Hinds replaced Matty Godden up front whilst Kgosi Ntlhe came in for Josh McQuoid on the wing. There was young Dale Gorman playing right-back whilst Academy apprentices Mark McKee and Jamie Gray made the bench.
The boss couldn’t have been more pleased with how the team dealt with the situation.
“We are obviously very light now. For us to come here with those issues in the background, they ran so hard, bless them.
“You look at the make-up of the Carlisle side today, they are all seasoned, established professionals.
“I was really pleased with the way they pressed today, they looked like my side. Their running, their hunger, their enthusiasm, I was really impressed with them.”
The big breaking news after the game though was that top goal scorer, Matty Godden will likely miss the rest of the season with a broken toe.
“Matty broke his big toe in the Friday game. He played pretty much 70 minutes with a broken big toe so Matthew will be out now for 6 weeks. Obviously he is very disappointed but if he ever gets to hear this, he should be very proud of his first seasons contribution.
“I hope he heals quickly. I hope he pats himself on the back for being a massive part of the reason why we are challenging where we are. If we can get him back sooner than that six week deadline, then great. If not, he can be so, so proud of his work this year.
