ASH NAMED CAPTAIN AS ROBBO MOVES ON

3 July 2013

Graham Westley has this evening announced that Jon Ashton will replace Mark Roberts as Club Captain after his departure to Fleetwood Town today.

Speaking to the official website, Westley said: "Ash is the ideal man to lead our team forward. He has a great history at the club, he wins football matches and he leads men. As one fantastic captain departs, so another one is born. He symbolises the desire to succeed that is at the heart of Stevenage and his ambition is stronger than ever."

The Boro manager continued: "The club was wise enough to recognise that Robbo was likely to depart this summer and the excellent signings of Ben Chorley and Luke Jones were strong proactive moves to build our new defence. We haven't finished though and negotiations have already opened on making 2 further important defensive  additions. Our focus is just on moving forwards."

Westley concluded: "Stevenage will always remember Robbo fondly. He has given so much to our cause. He has achieved so much in our name. Fleetwood have won the signature of a great professional, a wonderful man and a defender who puts his body on the line for the team. I wish him great fortune in his new opportunity and he will always be welcome here".
