Club Statement: FA Cup Replays

19 April 2024

Stevenage Football Club is disappointed at the decision taken by the FA and the Premier League to change the format of the FA Cup, by scrapping replays from the First Round Proper...

Decisions seem to have been made by the FA and Premier League with no recent consultation with EFL clubs, National League or grassroots clubs, who are quintessential to creating the magic of the FA Cup and generating once-in-a-lifetime moments for supporters.

As outlined by chairman Phil Wallace on BBC Radio yesterday, the scrapping of FA Cup replays would be a “big financial disadvantage for EFL and National League clubs and a huge loss to the magic of the FA Cup’’

"If you're coming from an angle of the Premier League players and protecting them, the England game and everything else, then perhaps you can see the logic.

"But football's not about just the Premier League, it's about the whole country, the 72 EFL clubs, the National League and the pyramid.

Stevenage Football Club urges the FA to suspend any changes until the EFL, National League and participating clubs have been consulted for an outcome to support the majority.
